The "motorways of the sea" are absolutely essential for exceptional transport. Not only the sea, but also the rivers are used for transport, thanks to the use of special "river barges" that make it possible to move large loads, the transport of which is becoming more and more difficult to perform by road, also because of the numerous limitations related to the road network. Smaller and increasingly busy roads, as well as bridges that limit the capacity of exceptional convoys to pass through.

For these reasons, an integrated road/air/sea system is essential for the success of the most complex abnormal loads in Italy. A solution that works very well for the interface with the Port of Venice Marghera, which is connected to the river network of Italian river ports.

While loading a piece of equipment onto a ship may seem quite easy, thanks to the use of special cranes already installed on the ship, transferring any type of cargo from road to barge is much more complex.

This is why we use the special technology of the hydraulic gantry cranes, which consist of a mobile structure with variable heights and truly incredible lifting capacities, using jacks that act as a piston and which extend or retract, depending on whether you want to raise or lower the load. The system allows the load to be moved on the barge by means of special rails.

The "Hydraulic Gantry Cranes" used by Marraffa are robust and reliable, perfect for both internal and external handling. The RIGGERS EZ600-40 are a system of mobile hydraulic lifts composed of 4 extensions with capacities ranging from 136 tons to 625 tons and can reach heights of over 12 metres.

With a combination of two or more legs (towers) and a beam or overhead girder structure, Marraffa hydraulic hoists allow lifting and handling of any load, both indoors at industrial sites and perfect for loading onto river barges.

Marraffa has used this technology to rotate some mega magnets inside a warehouse, before their subsequent handling.

Hydraulic Gantry Cranes were originally designed and manufactured for the press installation industry where an alternative to low clearance, high capacity cranes was required. Since the first purpose-built hydraulic gantry system was constructed in the 1960s, hydraulic gantries have evolved into a tool used in numerous industries for various lifting, moving and handling tasks.
