34 m cycle-pedestrian walkaway heavy lifting
A new vital connection between the town center and the renowned Casamassima Commercial Park (BA)
Marraffa took care of a single span cycle-pedestrian walkaway heavy lifting in Casamassima, in the province of Bari.
The construction was positioned parallel to an existing bridge, creating a new connection between the town center and the renowned Casamassima Commercial Park.
What is a cycle-pedestrian walkaway?
A cycle-pedestrian walkway is a structure designed to allow the safe passage of pedestrians and cyclists over obstacles such as a busy road, a river or a railway, ensuring a separate route from vehicular traffic.
Cycle-pedestrian walkways are made up of elevated pedestrian or cycle bridges that allow people and cyclists to circulate more safely and do not interfere with the flow of traffic. These structures, often tens of meters long and very heavy, are important for encouraging sustainable mobility: in this context, Marraffa took care of the erection of the building thanks to an heavy lifting operation.
Heavy lifting in the province of Bari: our challenge
The monobloc of the cycle-pedestrian walkway, 34 m long and weighing 45 tons, was assembled entirely with lifting points designed and created to be able to carry out the activity in a single operation.
The heavy lifting was carried out in record time: from the loading to the unloading phase, only 20 minutes were counted, allowing the ancillary activities to complete the safety of the work during the night.
The Liebherr LTM 1650 8.1 mobile crane in action
The success of this project was made possible thanks to the use of one of the most cutting-edge mobile cranes on the market: the Liebherr LTM 1650 8.1. This extraordinary machine, with its ability to lift heavy loads in a precise and controlled manner, has proven to be the ideal choice for tackling the challenge of lifting such an impressive cycle-pedestrian walkway.
An havy lift with minimal impact on traffic
The ambitious heavy lifting project required careful logistical planning, including coordination with local authorities to ensure the safety of citizens and minimize disruption.
In conjunction with the installation of the structure, the temporary closure of the S.S. 100 (a crucial road that connects Bari to Taranto) was necessary, creating an alternative road network regulated by the bodies that own the road. This decision was made to ensure the safety of those working on the site and motorists, demonstrating Marraffa's commitment to safety and efficiency at all stages of the project.
The preliminary operations for the lifting did not impact the main road network, with the road being closed only during the lifting and making it safe, in compliance with the timetable established by the client and the safety regulations.
Marraffa's commitment
Marraffa continues to play a key role in the development of local infrastructure, demonstrating his expertise and dedication in carrying out heavy lifting and transportation projects that contribute to the progress of the region.
The activity is a further sign of Marraffa's ongoing commitment to engineering excellence and the implementation of projects that leave a lasting impact on the community and surrounding environment.
