Two reactors handling in Brindisi
Marraffa has cutting-edge vehicles to carry out exceptional handlings on SPMT
Exceptional transport, Self-propelled vehicles, Industrial handling
Marraffa took care of the exceptional transport of two reactors, one of 230 tons and 43 m long, and one of 190 tons, 18 m long, thanks to the use of SPMTs.
The reactors were placed on stools (24 axles for the 230 ton one and 16 for the 190 ton one), so as to allow exceptional handling vehicles to position themselves underneath.
Subsequently, the hydraulic suspensions raised the loading platform, with the operations being radio-controlled by one of our operators. After removing the stools, the reactors traveled 6 km, reaching the port of Brindisi.
What are SPMTs?
SPMTs (Self-propelled modular transporter) are hydrostatic transmission vehicles composed of modular trolleys capable of moving longitudinally and laterally. They can be used not only for exceptional transport, but also to position and move exceptional loads directly on site. The SPMTs also allow movements on irregular terrain and surfaces, guaranteeing load safety and integrity.
Another fundamental feature of SPMTs is that they allow you to lift special loads thanks to the mobile platform, to pick up the load and deposit it without using cranes or overhead cranes.
Marraffa uses Goldhofer modular vehicles, among the largest and best performing in Europe, capable of supporting and organizing exceptional transports.
