Self-propelled transports Spmt, the best way to move everything
Not just logistics, lifting and crane rental. Exceptional transports need professionals to handle them.

Exceptional transports can be performed in various configurations. Weight, dimensions and type of load are important elements to take into account when setting up the convoy.
Of all the various types of configuration, there is one that stands out for its complexity and high level of professionalism. Marraffa srl, in particular, provides exceptional transport services using special self-propelled trolleys called Spmt (Self-propelled modular transporters) (link to Spmt section). These are trucks with hydrostatic transmission, which are powered by hydraulic motors. To look at them, they look like huge skids which, when placed under the load, allow movement and handling by road.
Spmt self-propelled trailers are used to transport exceptional loads in terms of weight and size, and are perfect even when the ground is uneven or rough, ensuring no shocks or bumps, and allowing the load to remain intact all the way to its destination. This is a very important feature, given that most of the time, we are dealing with the handling and transport of equipment of great economic value.
The self-propelled vehicles are modular, as the structure is customised according to specific needs, with modular trailers that can move longitudinally and laterally. Spmt self-propelled vehicles are not only used for transport, but are also particularly suitable for positioning or moving exceptional loads on site, depending on weight and size.
This German technology ensures that Spmt self-propelled vehicles are highly reliable. Marraffa benefits from the partnership with the manufacturer Goldhofer, a historical brand recognised worldwide.
The Spmt used by Marraffa for exceptional transport are composed of a rigid frame that can bear any weight, while the length can be adapted to the type of load, being completely modular in terms of the number of axles.
This solution was particularly useful when performing a mega-transport of two large marine platforms that were handled at the Port of Taranto (link to the section on work performed and case studies of marine platform transport). The two platforms, the first one of 650 tons and the second one of about 500 tons, had reached Taranto from Genoa by ship, and had been temporarily placed on the quay waiting for the works for the final offshore installation to be completed.
The unusual handling required a convoy of two Spmt Marraffa self-propelled trucks arranged in parallel, each with 18 axles. The platforms were finally loaded on board a ship for transfer to the sea in the Ionian Sea area in front of the port of Taranto, as infrastructure to serve the Eni refinery.
The Molo Polisettoriale of which San Cataldo Container Terminal Spa of the Yilport group is the concessionaire, is hosting important "project cargo" operations, in this case the maritime transport of non-standard and "out of gauge" cargoes. Marraffa srl, in actual fact, is a port company (link to the port services section), i.e. it carries out exceptional cargo and transport services, handling in general and lifting with cranes in some of the most important commercial ports in Italy, including Taranto, Bari and Marghera.
Marraffa has been working in the transport and logistics sector for over 40 years, employing highly specialised personnel who have consolidated its position in both the Italian and foreign markets. Its activities include exceptional transport, logistics, national transport, crane rental and crane service, aimed at all types of activity.
