Handling of a 72 ton tank with SPMT
The handling within a metalworking plant in Taranto was carried out with SPMT
A short but complex handling, successfully operated by Marraffa. This involves the handling of a vessel (a pressure vessel designed to contain gas or liquids at a different pressure from the external one) inside a metalworking plant in Taranto.
The tank - about 25 m long, about 4 m wide, about 5 m high and weighing about 72 tons - was transported from inside a building to the external yard, thanks to the use of SPMT.
The tank was placed on four stools, in order to allow the vehicle to be positioned underneath. Subsequently, radio-controlled by one of our operators, the hydraulic suspensions raised the loading surface. After removing the stools, the tank was transported outside the structure that housed it and positioned with the reverse procedure on the four supports.
What SPMT are
The SPMT (Self-propelled modular transporter) are hydrostatic transmission vehicles composed of modular trolleys capable of moving longitudinally and sideways, which can be used not only for transport, but also to position and move loads on site. exceptional. The SPMTs also allow for handling even on uneven ground and surfaces, ensuring the integrity of the load.
Another key feature of the SPMT is that they allow you to lift special loads thanks to the moving floor, to take the load and deposit it without the use of cranes or overhead cranes.
Marraffa uses self-propelled vehicles among the largest and most performing in Europe, capable of supporting and organizing exceptional transport.
