Transport, lifting and handling of three 68-ton reactors
The reactors were transported to the Rizziconi plant and subsequently moved and installed inside the plant
Marraffa was responsible for the transport and positioning of three single-phase reactors inside the Rizziconi thermoelectric plant, in the province of Reggio Calabria. The reactors weighed 68 tons, had a diameter of 4.6 m and a height of 4 m.
The activity consisted of 4 main phases, some of which were carried out simultaneously:
- Exceptional transport of reactors from the production plant to the electrical substation
- Loading and unloading reactors on a modular vehicle (SPMT)
- Movement within the plant
- Unloading and positioning of the reactors
The initial phase required the exceptional transport of the three reactors from the production plant to the thermoelectric plant of Rizziconi (RC).
Once they arrived at the thermoelectric plant, the reactors were lifted and positioned individually on a SPMT using a Marraffa mobile crane with a considerable capacity of 400 tons. This delicate operation was carried out with the utmost precision by Marraffa's highly specialized operators.
Subsequently, the reactors were moved within the plant using Goldhofer modular vehicles, commanded by highly qualified Marraffa operators. Thanks to this advanced equipment and the experience of our operators, the reactors were moved with extreme precision to another area of the plant, where they were subsequently positioned and installed by our professionals using a sliding technique called skidding.
It should be emphasized that the entire project was carried out in total safety, thanks also to the presence of an external safety coordinator who carefully validated all the processes and the schedule of activities. Marraffa pays the utmost attention to the safety of its operators, of the transported load and of the people involved in the operations, guaranteeing a safe working environment and compliance with current regulations.
The challenge
The main challenge of this project was to organize and coordinate the various activities in the shortest possible time, in order to minimize power outage times and ensure uninterrupted service on the national grid. Marraffa was able to successfully manage this challenge, demonstrating excellent planning and close collaboration with the authorities and clients.
The Rizziconi plant
The electricity produced by the Rizziconi thermoelectric plant, thanks also to the work carried out by Marraffa, contributes to the power supply of Calabria and Sicily, providing a precious source of energy for the daily activities of the regions.
The work carried out by Marraffa in the context of the expansion and strengthening of the Italian electricity grid is of crucial importance for the progress and modernization of the country. Through its commitment to upgrading energy infrastructures, Marraffa actively contributes to the creation of a more efficient and resilient electricity grid.
The excellence demonstrated by Marraffa in this complex project has received the appreciation of Terna Rete Italia, the general contractor for the work. This recognition testifies to Marraffa's ability and commitment to provide complete and reliable logistics solutions for the most complex challenges in the sector.
