Transport of wind turbines with specialized vehicles: this is what we did for the wind farm in Taranto
The ground handling activities of the monopiles of the wind towers were carried out by Marraffa

Handling of wind turbines in the first offshore wind farm in Italy, in Taranto
It will consist of 10 turbines of 3 MW each, with a total capacity of 30 MW and a production of 58,200 MWh, equal to the needs of 21,000 homes. The Piano Nazionale Integrato per l'Energia e il Clima (PNIEC) presented by the Italian Government foresees a target for offshore wind of 900 MW by 2030.
The marine wind farm that will rise in Taranto is based on a technology that provides a low impact from the environmental point of view. It will be a floating plant, composed of 10 turbines of 3 MW each with 30MW nominal installed power. The estimated production is 55.600 MWh per year able to serve the needs of 18.500 families. The entire project is based on monopile foundations with a diameter of 4.5 meters, total length of about 50 meters, for 400 tons of steel. The 80-meter towers and 135-meter diameter rotors will be installed on these foundations.
The activities of wind transport and handling on the ground of the monopiles have been assigned to Marraffa, a company specialized in exceptional transport, lifting and logistics, licensed as a port authority at the port of Taranto.
The structures are 50 meters long, 4.5 meters in diameter and weigh 420 tons.
The offshore wind farm in the Mar Grande of Taranto is the first to have obtained full authorization, compared to more than 20 projects presented since 2008. It is the first plant of this type installed in the Mediterranean, acting as a pioneer to two other parks that will be built in Sicily and Sardinia, all signed by the pencil of the same designer.
The plant will come into operation at the end of the year-early 2022, for an investment of about 80 million euros. The stretch of sea concerned is equal to 131,000 square meters, is located about 2 and a half kilometers from the coast, while the state maritime area is 455 square meters.
